Christmas - Ledisi, Killers, Mariah, Katherine and Rahsaan

I'm a complete sucker for Christmas music and I'm really enjoying this Ledisi Christmas album from a couple years ago... The whole album is a nice solid groove and great for some Holiday-themed background music.

For some reason I love the first track, which really is nothing more than a short riff that serves as an 'intro' for the rest of the album.

Ledisi - "I'll Go"

The Killers are also back with their annual Christmas single. And this one is a definite winner.

The Killers - "Boots"

(excuse the pre-roll advertising).

Then there's Katherine McPhee who did a Billy Squire (?!?!) cover.

Katherine McPhee - "Christmas is the Time"

And Mariah's new single really is pretty irresistable.

Mariah Carey - "Oh Santa"

And THIS track I actually heard at H&M and instantly recognized the voice...though it took some time to track down the actual song. Unfotunately, it's not the full track...but you can buy the whole thing if you like by heading to amazonmp3.com.

Rahsaan Patterson - "Holiday"

Speaking of Amazon, you can get Indigo Girls, Fleet Foxes and a bunch of other Christmas-themed tracks here for free!

Gaga Christmas

So Gaga's new Christmas track is free on Amazon!

It's certainly more of a throwaway track but, trust me, it grows on you. I especially like the (is it the bridge? the 2nd verse? the chorus? song structure's a bit out the window here.) "ho, ho, ho, underneath the mistle toe"

If you want to give it a preview, here it is on youtube:

And here's the link to the track on Amazon. Merry Christmas! http://www.amazon.com/Christmas-Tree/dp/B001UQT1KI

Santa Baby

It's a country music Christmas.

Holy makeover, Kellie Pickler! I've always sort of loathed you but...no matter how I try...this track from the most recent Very Special Christmas Album has become one of my new favs in the last week. You're no Madonna, but you sound like dynamite.

Kellie Pickler - "Santa Baby"

And to make matters even more confusing, I'm really liking this gospel-ish song from Sugarland's recent Christmas Album, Gold & Green. What's this world coming to...

"Coming Home"

christmas music

ahh, holiday music....

even tho i remain ever-faithful to the elvis christmas songs that i was indoctrinated with from childhood.....i think the best holiday album out there - by far - is the phil spector christmas album which utilizies spector's amazing 'wall of sound 'and his customay knock-out vocalists.

"winter wonderland" is probably my favoirte from the batch and i am CONVINCED that there's a small vocal error in the song. take special note of 1:52 where the high soprano backing vocalist sings "late at night" while everyone else sings "when it snows." she quickly gets back on track but i suppose there's no wonder they didn't re-record it considering the full band was likely playing the track in one take. regardless, it's sublime:
