  After arriving back from LA late last night I was jetlagged and unable to sleep which sent me down a YouTube rabbit hole of all things Whitney Houston. After the weekend and the sad turn of events, how could I not.

  I dismissed her last album pretty quickly upon first listen. "Million Dollar Bill" and "Call You Tonight" were the only ones I really liked. So I was decided to spend a little more time with I Look To You. There were no overlooked gems unfortunatley but I forgot that the album included a cover of the classic "A Song For You" by Donny Hathaway (and countless others). Her voice was gravelly and lived in at that point....so I took my problems to YouTube...and if you really want to hear Ms. Houston at the height of her vocal powers check out this rendition from 1991, where she literally squeezes out every possible nuance from every line. The comparison to the album version is pretty startling.

Now I realize this has been out for eons. (My drinking buddy gave me the 'i can't believe you don't know this' look). But what can I say, I've pretty much avoided all of his stuff...So if you don't know it already maybe you'll be pleasantly surprised too.
